About Aksaray

Aksaray is a Central Anatolian city set between Konya, Nevsehir, Nigde and Ankara, known for its broad plains, historic routes and calm, practical character. Its position near Cappadocia and along important road corridors makes it a convenient stop as well as a destination in its own right.

The city is well connected by intercity buses and highways, especially toward Ankara, Konya, Kayseri and Cappadocia. Aksaray does not have an active passenger airport; the nearest options are usually Nevsehir Kapadokya Airport and Konya Airport, with Kayseri also used for wider flight choices.

Aksaray's history reaches back to ancient settlements and gained importance through Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Its cultural identity is closely tied to the Silk Road, caravan trade and Seljuk heritage, seen in places such as Sultanhanı Caravanserai, one of Anatolia's most impressive roadside inns.

Visitors can explore Aksaray Museum, the Ulu Mosque, Zinciriye Madrasa and the historic center before heading to Ihlara Valley, where walking paths, rock-cut churches and the Melendiz River create one of the region's most memorable landscapes. Mount Hasan, Tuz Golu and the Güzelyurt area add volcanic scenery, wide horizons and quiet stone-built villages.

The climate is continental, with hot dry summers and cold winters, and daily life feels relaxed, affordable and rooted in local routines. Social life centers on cafes, markets, university life, nature outings and short trips to nearby valleys and historic sites.
