Airport to Florence City Center Transport

Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport is close to the historic center, so travelers can reach central Florence by tram, local bus connections, taxi, rental car, or pre-booked private transfer. The tram is usually the fastest public transport option, while taxis and private transfers are convenient for late arrivals, heavy luggage, or door-to-door travel.

Bus

Municipal bus services are available around the airport and nearby Guidoni/Peretola stops, but they are usually less direct than the T2 tram for travel to Florence city center. Depending on the route, walking and transfers may be required, with an average journey time of about 35 to 50 minutes.

• Line 23: connects areas near the airport with Florence neighborhoods and onward city connections.
• Line 30: serves the Peretola and Novoli area, useful for local connections.
• Line 35: links the airport area with western Florence districts.
• Line 5: useful for connections through Novoli and toward central Florence.

Airport Shuttle

Traditional airport shuttle buses such as Vola in Bus/Havabus-style services are no longer the main regular connection from Florence Airport to the city center, as the T2 tram now handles the direct airport link. If a seasonal, hotel, or private shuttle is offered, check the operator schedule in advance. Typical travel time to central Florence is about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

• Florence Santa Maria Novella railway station area
• Piazza dell'Unita Italiana
• Hotel or group shuttle pickup points by prior arrangement

Metro / Tram

Florence does not have a metro, but tram line T2 connects Amerigo Vespucci Airport directly with the city center. The airport stop is Peretola - Aeroporto, close to the terminal, and the route serves key central stops such as Alamanni - Stazione near Santa Maria Novella station and San Marco - Universita. The average journey time is about 20 minutes to the station area and about 35 minutes for the full route to San Marco.

• T2 Peretola - Aeroporto to Alamanni - Stazione: best for Santa Maria Novella station.
• T2 Peretola - Aeroporto to Unita: convenient for hotels near Piazza dell'Unita Italiana.

• Direct taxi to Santa Maria Novella station
• Direct taxi to hotels in the historic center
• Late-night transfer when tram services are limited

Car Rental

Car rental companies serve Florence Airport, with offices and pickup arrangements available at or near the terminal area. This option is useful for travelers continuing into Tuscany, but it is usually not the most practical choice for Florence city center because of traffic, limited parking, and restricted ZTL zones.

• Airport car rental desks or nearby rental offices
• Terminal-exit pickup or shuttle-assisted pickup, depending on the company
• Best for onward trips to Chianti, Siena, Lucca, or the Tuscan countryside

The average journey time is about 15 to 25 minutes.
