About Banfora

Banfora lies in southwestern Burkina Faso, in the Cascades Region near the borders with Côte d'Ivoire and Mali. It is a green, relatively relaxed city known for sugarcane fields, dramatic natural sites, and its role as a gateway to some of the country's most scenic landscapes.

The city is connected by road and rail to Bobo-Dioulasso, Ouagadougou, and the Ivorian corridor, making it an important stop for regional travel and trade. Banfora does not have a major commercial airport; most air travelers use Bobo-Dioulasso or Ouagadougou before continuing by road.

Historically shaped by local communities, trade routes, and the colonial-era railway, Banfora has cultural importance for groups such as the Karaboro, Gouin, and Turka. Its surroundings are often explored through visits to the Karfiguela Waterfalls, the Domes of Fabedougou, Lake Tengrela with its hippos, and the nearby Sindou Peaks.
