About Bitburg

Bitburg lies in western Germany in Rhineland-Palatinate, on the southern edge of the Eifel and close to Luxembourg and Belgium. It is a compact district town with a practical center, a calm regional character and the role of a service hub for the surrounding Bitburger Land.

Connections are shaped by road, bus and rail: regional buses link the town with Trier and nearby communities, while Bitburg-Erdorf station provides rail access on the Eifel route. Bitburg itself has no major passenger airport; the most useful nearby airports are Luxembourg Airport and Frankfurt-Hahn, with larger international choices at Frankfurt or Cologne/Bonn.

Historically, Bitburg grew from the Roman settlement of Beda on an important route between Trier and Cologne. Remains of the Roman wall, the old town area, St. Peter's Church, Bedaplatz, the beer fountain and the Bitburger Marken-Erlebniswelt give the town its cultural outline, combining Roman roots, postwar rebuilding and a brewing identity known far beyond the region.

The surrounding Eifel landscape brings wooded hills, open fields and a mild but often changeable upland climate. Life here feels unhurried, with walking, cycling and day trips to Trier, Luxembourg, the Südeifel Nature Park and nearby valleys forming part of everyday recreation.
