About Cankiri

Cankiri lies in north-central Anatolia, between Ankara and the Black Sea region, with a calm provincial character shaped by broad plateaus, valleys and surrounding hills. It is a compact city known for its mineral wealth, traditional neighborhoods and easygoing rhythm.

The city is reached mainly by road, with regular connections to Ankara, Kastamonu and nearby districts; rail links also support regional travel. Cankiri does not have a major commercial airport, so visitors generally use Ankara Esenboga Airport and continue by bus, car or transfer.

Its history reaches back to ancient Paphlagonia and continued through Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods, leaving a layered cultural identity. Cankiri Castle, the historic houses around the old quarter, the Grand Mosque and the striking Underground Salt City are among the places that introduce this heritage naturally.

Nature gives Cankiri much of its atmosphere. Ilgaz Mountain National Park, close to the city, offers forests, mountain air, hiking routes and winter sports, while the wider province has a continental climate with cold snowy winters and warm dry summers.
