About Cayo Coco

Cayo Coco is a resort island in Cuba's Jardines del Rey archipelago, off the north coast of Ciego de Avila Province. Known for pale beaches, calm turquoise water and protected natural areas, it has a quieter, more self-contained feel than Cuba's larger cities.

The island is linked to mainland Cuba by a long causeway, making road transfers possible from Moron and Ciego de Avila. Jardines del Rey International Airport serves Cayo Coco and nearby Cayo Guillermo, with seasonal and charter connections from Canada, Europe and other Caribbean routes.

Historically, Cayo Coco was valued more for fishing, salt flats and wildlife than urban settlement, and its name is tied to the white ibis locally called "coco." Its cultural importance today comes from its role in Cuban coastal tourism and conservation within the Jardines del Rey ecosystem.
