About Enugu

Enugu sits in southeastern Nigeria, serving as the capital of Enugu State and one of the region's most recognizable urban centers. Set among low hills and green stretches, it is known for a relatively calm pace, government and commercial activity, and its role as a gateway to surrounding Igbo-speaking communities.

The city is connected by major roads to Nsukka, Onitsha, Abakaliki, Owerri and Port Harcourt, while Akanu Ibiam International Airport provides air access for domestic travel and periodic international links. Enugu grew rapidly in the early twentieth century after coal was discovered nearby, earning the nickname "Coal City." It became an important administrative and cultural center in eastern Nigeria, with strong ties to Igbo identity, education, politics, music, film and literature.
