About Errachidia

Errachidia lies in eastern Morocco, between the Middle Atlas and the edge of the Sahara, serving as a practical gateway to the Ziz Valley, Tafilalt and the desert routes toward Merzouga. It is a calm administrative and commercial city with wide streets, palm-fringed surroundings and a strong connection to oasis life.

The city is linked by road to Fez, Midelt, Erfoud, Rissani and the dunes of Erg Chebbi, making it a common stop on journeys across southeastern Morocco. Moulay Ali Cherif Airport, just outside the city, provides air access with domestic connections, while buses, shared taxis and private transfers handle most regional travel.

Historically known as Ksar Es-Souk, Errachidia grew in importance as a market and military center before taking its modern name. Its cultural identity reflects Amazigh, Arab and Saharan influences, visible in nearby ksour, oasis settlements and the traditions of the Tafilalt region.

Visitors often use Errachidia as a base for exploring the Ziz Gorges, Hassan Addakhil Dam, the blue spring of Meski, palm groves and desert towns farther south. The climate is dry, with hot summers, cool winters and clear skies that give daily life a measured, open-air rhythm.

Social life centers on cafes, markets, family outings and seasonal festivals, with local activities shaped by trade, education and travel.
