Essaouira lies on Morocco's Atlantic coast, west of Marrakech, and is known for its breezy shoreline, whitewashed medina, blue shutters, fishing harbor, and relaxed seaside character. Smaller and calmer than Morocco's imperial cities, it combines beach-town ease with strong historical identity.
