Funafuti is the capital and main settlement of Tuvalu, spread across a narrow coral atoll in the central Pacific between ocean and lagoon. Its low-lying islets, modest government buildings, churches and villages give it a compact, practical character shaped by sea, wind and close community life.

Most visitors arrive through Funafuti International Airport, the country's principal air gateway, with limited regional connections that make advance planning important.
