Gibraltar is a compact British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic and Europe faces North Africa across the Strait. Dominated by the limestone Rock, it combines a busy port, dense town streets, dramatic viewpoints and a distinctive blend of British, Mediterranean and Andalusian influences.

Connections are unusually convenient for such a small territory. Gibraltar International Airport sits beside the town and has regular links with the United Kingdom, while Malaga Airport in Spain offers a wider choice of international flights. Visitors also arrive by road from La Linea de la Concepcion, by bus through nearby Andalusian towns, by taxi, on foot across the border, or by cruise ship into the harbour.

Its history is layered and strategic, shaped by Moorish rule, Spanish influence and British control since the early eighteenth century. This background is visible in the old city walls, Casemates Square, the Great Siege Tunnels, the Moorish Castle and the military heritage carved into the Rock, while Main Street, churches, synagogues and bilingual local speech reflect its cultural crossroads.

Places to visit are close together and easy to combine. The Upper Rock Nature Reserve offers cable car views, walking paths, St Michael's Cave, the Skywalk and the famous Barbary macaques. Europa Point, the Alameda Gardens, Catalan Bay and the marina areas add sea views, color and calmer corners beyond the commercial center.

Gibraltar has a mild Mediterranean climate, with warm summers, gentle winters and breezes that give the territory an open, maritime feel. Social life gathers around cafes, pubs, waterfront restaurants, beaches, sailing, diving, dolphin-watching trips and lively public squares. Local flavors mix British staples with Spanish tapas, seafood, calentita, panissa and other Genoese-influenced dishes.

Getting around is simple: much of central Gibraltar is walkable, local buses cover key areas, taxis serve the Rock and border, rental cars are possible, and organized tours are useful for steep viewpoints and nature reserve highlights.
