Ho Chi Minh City lies in southern Vietnam, near the Saigon River and within easy reach of the Mekong Delta. It is the country's largest urban center, known for its fast pace, dense street life, modern skyline and layered neighborhoods where colonial buildings, markets, temples and new developments sit close together.

The city is Vietnam's main southern transport hub, with road links to the Mekong Delta, coastal destinations and Cambodia. Tan Son Nhat International Airport serves domestic routes across Vietnam as well as many regional and international flights, and sits close to the central districts, making arrivals relatively straightforward.

Formerly Saigon, the city played a central role in Vietnam's modern history and remains a major cultural and economic force. Visitors naturally encounter this past at the War Remnants Museum, Reunification Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, Saigon Central Post Office and the old streets around Dong Khoi, while Ben Thanh Market, Cholon and Jade Emperor Pagoda show other sides of local life.

The climate is tropical, with warm weather year-round, a dry season and a wetter monsoon season. Green pauses come from parks, riverfront areas and day trips toward the Cu Chi Tunnels or the Mekong Delta, but the city's strongest impression is its constant movement: scooters, coffee stalls, late meals and busy sidewalks.
