About Kardzhali

Kardzhali is a regional city in southern Bulgaria, set in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains close to the Arda River and not far from the border with Greece. It is known for its calm pace, mixed cultural character and attractive setting between hills, reservoirs and rocky landscapes.

The city is linked by road with Haskovo, Plovdiv, Smolyan and the Makaza border crossing toward northern Greece. Kardzhali has ancient roots, with Thracian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman layers visible in the wider region. The climate is relatively mild for an inland mountain region, with warm summers and softer winters than many parts of Bulgaria.
