About Kedougou

Kedougou lies in southeastern Senegal, close to the borders with Mali and Guinea, and serves as the main gateway to one of the country's most rugged and scenic regions. Smaller and quieter than Senegal's coastal cities, it has the feel of a frontier town shaped by mountains, rivers, mining activity and cross-border trade.

The city is reached mainly by road from Tambacounda, with onward connections toward villages, waterfalls and national parks in the surrounding region. Kedougou has a small airport, but regular commercial flights are limited, so most visitors arrive by bus, shared taxi, private vehicle or organized tour.

Historically, Kedougou has been linked to Mandinka, Bassari, Bedik and Fula communities, giving the area a strong cultural identity within Senegal.
