About Linz

Linz lies on the Danube in Upper Austria, roughly between Vienna and Salzburg, and is the country's third-largest city. It combines a compact historic center with a strong industrial and creative identity, making it feel practical, cultured and easy to navigate.

The city is well connected by rail, road and river routes, with frequent train links to Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and other regional destinations. Linz Airport, located southwest of the center in Hörsching, handles selected European flights and is reachable by public transport, shuttle or taxi.

Historically, Linz grew from a Roman settlement into an important trading town and later an industrial center. Within the city, trams, buses and local trains form the main public transport network, complemented by taxis, cycling routes, pedestrian-friendly central streets and the Pöstlingbergbahn for the hill above town.
