Neubrandenburg lies in northeastern Germany, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, between the Mecklenburg Lake District and the region of Pomerania. It is a compact, green city known for its medieval brick architecture, lakeside setting and calm regional character.

Its preserved town wall, four Gothic city gates, Wiek houses and the Marienkirche, now used as a concert church, give the center a distinctive cultural identity.
