About Presov

Presov lies in eastern Slovakia, between Kosice and the High Tatras foothills, and is one of the country's main regional cities. It has a compact historic core, a practical urban character, and a mix of Slovak, Ruthenian, Jewish and other cultural influences that give it a distinctive atmosphere.

The city is well connected by road and rail, with regular links to Kosice, Poprad, Bratislava and nearby towns. Presov does not have a major commercial airport of its own; the nearest useful airport is Kosice International Airport, with Poprad-Tatry Airport also reachable for selected seasonal routes.

Presov grew as a medieval trading town and later became an important cultural, religious and educational center. Around Hlavna Street, visitors can see St. Nicholas Co-Cathedral, the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky, historic burgher houses, the Neptune Fountain and museums that reflect the city's layered past.

Green hills, parks and nearby recreation areas shape everyday life, while the climate brings warm summers, cold winters and clear seasonal changes. Social life is centered on cafes, pubs, cultural venues, festivals, sports facilities and trips into the surrounding Saris region. Local flavors include hearty Slovak dishes, Saris beer, bryndza specialties and regional pastries.

Getting around Presov is straightforward by public buses and trolleybuses, with taxis, cycling on selected routes and walking especially useful in the central area.
