Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, sits in the Taipei Basin in the island's north, framed by green hills and close to the Tamsui River. It is a compact, energetic city known for safe streets, dense neighborhoods, night markets, temples, modern towers, and an easy balance between business, culture, and everyday comfort.

The city is well connected by high-speed rail, intercity trains, buses, and highways, making trips around Taiwan straightforward. International arrivals usually use Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, linked to central Taipei by Airport MRT, buses, taxis, and private transfers, while Taipei Songshan Airport serves selected regional and domestic routes closer to the city center.

Taipei grew from a Qing-era settlement into a major political, commercial, and cultural center, shaped by Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese, and Indigenous influences. Its history appears naturally in places such as Longshan Temple, Dihua Street, the National Palace Museum, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and the lanes around old Wanhua, while contemporary Taipei is visible at Taipei 101, Xinyi, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and riverside districts.

Nature is never far away: Yangmingshan, Maokong, Beitou hot springs, Elephant Mountain, and riverside cycling paths give the city an outdoorsy rhythm. The climate is humid subtropical, with warm summers, mild winters, and frequent rain, which helps keep the surrounding landscape lush. Social life often centers on cafes, bookstores, markets, karaoke, festivals, shopping streets, and late-night eating.

Local flavors are a major part of the visit, from beef noodle soup, scallion pancakes, braised pork rice, oyster omelets, and soup dumplings to bubble tea and fruit desserts. Within Taipei, the MRT is the easiest way to move around, supported by city buses, YouBike rentals, taxis, and walkable neighborhood routes.
